Founded in 1997, the Sampson County History Museum has grown into a “village” of eleven buildings, representing over 250 years of Sampson County history. With thousands of permanent artifacts, visitors are encouraged to explore these pages from the past and reflect as they search through their own lives and their place in history.
Each building holds a unique key to the past - military history, sports, law enforcement, agriculture, and more. A restored country store, 18th century log cabins, and a 19th century farmhouse stand side by side with modern exhibit halls…all to tell the story of Sampson County North Carolina.
With something for everyone, we encourage you to stop by for a free tour and immerse yourself in Sampson County’s rich heritage, and its role in the greater history of North Carolina’s Cape Fear Region. Here at the Sampson County History Museum, we do indeed hold your “key to the past”!
"This is a hidden gem downtown Clinton! And it is free!! Great place to take the kids, and the tour guide Chrissy is just awesome!!!"

"Every staff at Sampson County History Museum was kind, humble and knowledgeable about the history of their particular piece. Every question by visitors was answered with thought and clarity when I visited last year in each building."
